VOLUNTEER POSITIONS NEEDED
FIRST IMPRESSION VOLUNTEERS
I am sure you’ve heard all the taglines, “Bringing People and Pets together.” Want to help us mean what we say? We want the Animal Foundation to be a valuable community resource that people turn to with anything animal related. To accomplish this we are focusing on creating a warm, friendly and welcoming first impression both on the phone and with visitors. That why we are looking for first impression volunteers – supporters with an out-going and compassionate personality who enjoy talking to people who love animals. As a First Impression Volunteer, you’d be our front door gatekeeper for the adoption center. You would greet visitors with a smile and ensure the Animal Foundation puts its best “paw” forward with fellow community members.
CAT & KITTEN CUDDLER
Cat & Kitten Cuddlers hold, pet, and hug the cats and kittens in our care. The more a cat or kitten is held the more it is able to adapt to changes in its environment making it much more adoptable.
DOG & PUPPY PLAYERS
This is probably our most needed position. Unfortunately, our dogs do not get the love and attention needed. Dog & Puppy Players play, pet, hug, and love our dogs and puppies. Socializing reduces the dog’s stress and the dog’s tendency to bark, making their chance of finally going home better.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Join the staff and other volunteers to deliver the Animal Foundation message directly to our supporters while helping to raise money to support our programs and services. As a part of this program you will help at special events with set up, tear down and general help with the animals.

Foster Care
Foster Opportunities
It is our goal to adopt out as many healthy, well adjusted animals as possible. Spring and Summer is when we can receive multiple litters of animals each day. There are many opportunities to become a foster parent to one of our shelter animals.
Animals that need foster care include:
- Special needs animals
- Too young to be adopted
- Pregnant or nursing cats and kittens
- Pregnant or nursing dogs and puppies
- Underweight animals
REST AND RELAXATION
Stress can cause animals to become more susceptible to disease, such as upper respiratory infections in cats. From time to time, we will have an animal nursing a fractured bone or other injury, for example. It is very important these animals have a quiet, stress-free setting in order to make the most of their rehabilitation. Removing the animal from the shelter situation to give them time to heal or adjust makes for a well rounded animal, much more likely to be adopted. If you would like to make your home their sanctuary and you do not have small children or other pets, this endeavor may be for you.
FOSTER A FAMILY
Consider fostering a mother and her babies. Foster a family and witness the rearing of infant newborn puppies or kittens. For the comfort of the mother and health of the babies, as they are too young to vaccinate, a home is best until they are old enough to be placed for adoption.
If you are interested in becoming a foster parent to our shelter animal(s), please complete the foster application. Speak with your foster counselor and be clear, ask questions and share your expectations. It is important to have the support of everyone in your home. Have the consent of your landlord. Keep your personal pets up to date on their vaccinations. The foster family is responsible for feeding and making sure the animal is brought in for scheduled vaccinations or procedures. The Animal Foundation is not liable for any damage done by a foster animal.
And remember, there will be a time when that animal is well enough to return to the shelter for adoption.
If at any time during the foster period, you determine you can no longer care for the pet, please let your rescue coordinator know immediately.
