How to Locate Your Lost Animal

Less than 10% of the animals who arrived at The Animal Foundation last year were returned to their owner.  If your pet is missing you must take action immediately.  Here are some tips:

Post fliers of your lost pet in your neighborhood and surrounding areas.  List where and when the dog was lost, the breed and sex of the animal, what he looks like and a telephone number where you may be reached.  Do not put your name or address on the flier.  Use caution and sense when meeting someone who claims to have your animal.

Notify your neighbors and your mailman to keep an eye out for your pet.  Someone may have them in their home not knowing what to do to get him back to his owner.

Your pet may have been picked up by Animal Control.  Impound fees, Boarding fees,  and update Rabies Vaccination fees may apply click here to view fees.  Consistently check our online  Lost and Found Search link.  Remember, if the animal has been gone for more than 3 days and was here, it may have moved on to adoptions.  Please check the Adoptions link as well.

Remember, your description of Fluffy and someone else’s may differ.  The Animal Foundation receives 50,000 animals annually.  It is often impossible to identify an animal in the system with only a description.  Please visit the shelter’s Lost Animal Rooms as often as possible.  Each day is best.

Bring a photo of your pet, veterinary records and proof of rabies vaccination.  If you find your pet and it has not been vaccinated, we will do so for you before it is released.  If you do not have proof of current rabies vaccination you will be charged a fee for the vaccination.

Your animal should always wear a collar with your current telephone number and current pet licenses should be displayed.  Pets can be identified by their tags.

Have your animal microchipped.  This is a must if the little guy likes to bolt.  By placing a microchip just beneath the skin, an Animal Control officer, veterinarian or shelter staff may identify your pet immediately with the pass of an electronic microchip reader.  If a microchip is detected and contact information is current, you will be notified and your animal can return home.

I Lost a Pet or I Found a Pet uploads.

If you have lost or found a dog, you may go to www.petharbor.com to upload a photo and description of the animal.  Search by Las Vegas, scroll down and choose The Animal Foundation.  Click on I Lost a Pet or I Found a Pet and choose the type of animal.  Just below the red Search Now button will be a link to register the animal you’ve lost or found.

You may view animals lost and found by the public on Pet Harbor.  When viewing the Lost and Found animals from our shelter on Pet Harbor, scroll down to the bottom of the page.  Here you will be provided prompts to Show Pets Lost by the Public or Register your Found Pet.
