Adoptions

The Animal Foundation has many different species of animals available for adoption on any given day.  We have many pure bred and mixed breed dogs. Dogs available for adoption are housed in our eco friendly bungalows on the southwest side of the campus.  You will recognize the bungalows by their brightly colored chimneys.  Cats, bunnies, birds, rodents and reptiles are housed in the large white tent to the north of the bungalows.

Adoption hours are from 11 AM to 7 PM every day.  If you find an animal of interest online, please note the “A” number provided.  This will help the adoption counselors point you to the right bungalow to meet your dog.  Please note The Animal Foundation cannot insure an animal will be available when you arrive at the shelter, as some animals may be adopted or returned to their owners. 

In the bungalows, if you find an animal you would like to meet, please note the “A” number or kennel number from their kennel card.  Do not remove the kennel card from the area.  An adoption counselor will be happy to assist you.  An adoption application must be completed before you can hold or walk an animal.  Photo ID is required.  If you rent and plan to adopt an animal, you must provide contact information for your landlord or apartment community.  Download an adoption application here.

The Animal Foundation encourages meet and greet adoptions. Please bring your dog down to meet your potential new family member to ensure compatibility.

All adopted dogs and cats are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered.  Thus, if your animal is not previously altered, it will be scheduled for surgery and you will pick it up the following day.  Cats and dogs must be 4 months old to receive a rabies vaccination.  If an animal is too young, you will be provided a voucher for a rabies shot in our clinic.  You will also receive a complimentary 5 lb bag of Science Diet pet food and a list of participating veterinary clinic’s that will provide you with a complimentary wellness check with receipt of your newly adopted animal.

 

Microchips

Microchipping your animal is an additional safeguard to ensuring your animal returns home if it is lost.  Always update your information with your microchip company if you move.

Microchips, the size of a large grain of rice, are implanted just beneath the skin of an animal.  The chip is registered with the owner’s information.  The microchip stays with the animal for life.  This information is read with an electronic scanner.  The Animal Foundation uses Home Again brand microchips.  All cats, dogs and rabbits adopted from The Animal Foundation are microchipped.

All animals are scanned for a microchip if picked up by animal control, upon arrival at the shelter and before humane euthanasia if necessary.  If a microchip is detected, shelter staff is able to contact the microchip manufacturer to retrieve the owner’s information.  Know that without ID, 90% of animals lost do not return home.
